Community Engagement

Community engagement is both the planned and unplanned interaction between Department members and community members. Department personnel interact with community members every day. Engagements help build trust, confidence, and legitimacy, and they help to prevent and deter crime. Engagements also build solidified, positive, trustworthy, and reciprocal relationships with our partners, citizens, organizations, and stakeholders.
The Department conducts its engagements through interactions on the street, community Oriented policing program, the participation on committees and boards, speaking engagements, civic events and a number of community-department interactions.

We are currently seeking community response to the 2022 Hazard Mitigation Plan.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Chief Allen Sibert

2022 Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Plan approved

The 2022 Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Plan has been approved by both the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The plan approval is pending adoption resolutions from the participating jurisdictions, including Prince William, Loudoun, Fairfax, and Arlington counties and their towns along with the cities of Manassas Park, Manassas, Falls Church, Fairfax, and Alexandria.

The Planning Team worked in partnership with Northern Virginia to update the plan. Planning meetings were held with local officials, emergency management agencies, and interested individuals. The Town of Haymarket must have an approved hazard mitigation plan in order to access state hazard mitigation grant funds. The plan includes an assessment of natural hazards and sets goals and action items to reduce the impact of hazards in the future. Persons wishing to review the plan may access it by obtaining in the Community Engagement Section of the Haymarket Police Department Website.

For more information on the plan, contact Chief Allen Sibert at (571) 469-8300.
