Youth in Government Program

Have you ever wanted to improve something locally? Maybe you see the need for sidewalks, a dog park, or more visible signs to find businesses. Perhaps you want to help the homeless or just make a difference. To make change, it’s helpful to understand how your local government works. This program was created to give middle school students the opportunity to develop mature citizenship and learn how decisions are made at the town/city government level.

The Town of Haymarket is hosting a Youth in Government Program (the “Program”) for local students.  The Program will be open to 15 participants in Middle School (grades 6-8). The Town of Haymarket and Town Council are hosting this program with the intent to provide our youth of Haymarket an opportunity to voice their opinion and share a role in the decision-making on the issues that arise in our Town. If you have a child interested in participating, they are in grade 6, 7 or 8 and live in the Haymarket/Gainesville area please fill out the application below.
