Any project such as Decks, Sheds, pools, etc. (that have footers) require a Construction Permit Application and a Certificate of Appropriateness application. These projects must go thru the Planning Commission and the Architectural Review Board. You will then be issued a Permit to proceed with your project from the Building Official, Jim Lowery. You must call Jim Lowery for all inspections on your project. His office number is 703-352-5012.
Fences are only required to go thru the Planning Commission and the ARB Board. Please fill out a Certificate of Appropriateness application.
Any Aesthetic changes (refacing, painting different colors, changing roof style and color, etc.) only need to go thru the ARB. Please fill out the Certificate of Appropriateness application.
SIGNS: All request for signs (wall mounted and hanging) must fill out the Certificate of Appropriateness application, and have ALL information requested on page 2, under the "Sign" section. Please also download the ARB Guidelines. This shows all the approved Font/Lettering allowed and gives samples for allowed signs. ON ANY CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS APPLICATION, IF YOU BELONG TO A HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION (HOA), YOU MUST HAVE HOA APPROVAL'S SIGNATURE ON THE APPLICATION.

The Planning Commission Agenda Review takes place 10 days prior to the meeting. Please have your applications in no later than the Friday, 10 days before, the Planning Commission Meeting. i.e., if the PC meeting is Monday October 12th, the review of the Agenda will be Friday, October 2nd.
For the Architectural Review Board, your application will need to be turned into the Clerk's office at least one week prior to the meeting.
